Bay Primary Children

Mr D. Mills

We are proud to welcome you to The Bay Church of England Primary School, where learning comes alive and every child is unique. Inspiring learners, within our supportive Christian Ethos, so that each child has the opportunity to excel, is central to our daily work. Set in the heart of Sandown on the Isle of Wight. The Bay Church of England Primary School offers excellent provision within modern purpose built facilities which include an open ICT area, Library and a Specialist Room.

We are proud to share the many individual and collective successes of our children and encourage prospective parents to visit the school and see for themselves the high standards achieved.

Within the school grounds we have outdoor areas which include a Sports Court and an Astro Turf Pitch. Our committed team of staff work in partnership with Parents and Carers from the very start of school life, encouraging and preparing each child for lifelong learning.

“We look forward to meeting you in the future.”

Secondary School Provision in Sandown

We welcome the decision that the Secretary of State for Education, Justine Greening MP, has made to secure secondary school provision in the Sandown Bay area. We believe that this is a step in the right direction for the community and all involved with the schools and look forward to working closely with our Hampshire and Isle of Wight colleagues in preparing for the statutory consultation process to create an all through school.

Remembrance Day at The Bay

Children from Community Kids and Rainbow Group have been busy recently working on a new Living Cross project.

Children have helped prepare two crosses and have planted many spring bulbs, some of which were generously donated by Shanklin Rotary in memory of Sandown residents who gave their lives in World War One and other conflicts.

Their hard work was recognised during celebration assembly with a number of special guests.

To mark Remembrance Day the crosses were decorated with poppies made by Rainbow Group and Year 5.

Maths Learning Together Morning

Some of the feedback ……..

Thank you for the fantastic opportunity that you have given to parents/carers this morning.

Again very calm and great lesson.

Excellent learning environment.  Very impressed with the teaching methods.
It’s wonderful seeing what they are getting up to in school.  The speed they work at is astonishing.
Very good to see how fun the teacher makes maths.
Very good workshop.  It is interesting to see how quickly they work and how much they can get done in a short space of time.
Really helpful to support learning at home.  Lovely to see Maths is finally fun to learn!
Enjoying finding out about the current teaching methods that are completely alien to anything I learnt at school.  Great to see Maths taught in a fun way.
Ideas for future workshops.
More info on changing teaching methods to enable me to assist with homework.

Just to have more as it is very helpful if you have a child who does ‘nothing’ when you ask them at the end of the day/week.

Community Kids

Sandown in Bloom

We are so proud of our Community Kids for being awarded first prize for The Bay Primary School and second prize for Sandown Train Station in the Best Initiative Involving Young People category.  We took three children on behalf of Community Kids to a lovely presentation at Browns Golf Café. We would like to say a massive thank you to Island Line Community Partnership, The Gaslight Café and The Bay C of E Primary for the donations which enabled us to purchase flowers and plants.

The Bay Primary School also achieved Highly Commended in the Wight in Bloom Young People Initiative category.

National Youth Jazz Orchestra

Last Thursday a group of Jazz Musicians from the National Youth Jazz Orchestra came in to educate and entertain the children in Years 4, 5 and 6. The group consisted of Chelsea on Saxophone, Harrison on Trumpet, Joe on Trombone, Shirley on Guitar, Alec on Bass and Ben on Drums. The group played seven different pieces of music in their one hour sessions as well as talking about all of the instruments. Three of the pieces were composed by the group leader, Chelsea. Other pieces included Four by Miles Davis and Strasbourg St Denis by Roy Hargrove.

The group told me interesting facts about their instruments for me to share with you.

Chelsea: The saxophone was the first instrument to be played in Space in 1984 by Ron McNair
Harrison: The first horns were not made out of brass but out of animal horns.
Joe: If you were to unwind a trombone the total length would be around 9 feet. That’s the size of an African elephant from its shoulder to its toe!
Shirley: The longest marathon playing guitar is 114 hours 6 minutes 30 seconds and was achieved by David Browne in June 2011.
Alex: The Octobass is a huge bass that you can only play standing on a stool.
Ben: The world’s largest drum kit has 813 pieces and it took 36 hours to build.

If you were inspired by this session you can contact Wight Music Tuition – by email or phone -about instrumental lessons in school.
